WWE interviewer Todd Grisham interviewed Challenger of WWE Intercontinental Champion CM Punk at backstage. Todd Grisham raised William Regal’s activites over CM Punk for the last few wrestling events. CM Punk seriously reacted and decided to prove as best Intercontinental Champion just like Mr. Perect, Bret Hart and Ricky Steamboat. Todd Grisham appreciated CM Punk. World Wrestling Entertainment finally granted this wrestling match between these two wrestling superstars. In few moments, WWE Intercontinental Champion and 2008 King of the Ring William Regal appeared in this wrestling event with his manager Layla. WWE Intercontinental Champion William Regal entered into wrestling ring and handovered his title to match referee. Match referee started this wrestling match. William Regal gave a shot on CM Punk’s chest.

Similarly, CM punk well handled William Regal with his mixed martial arts performance. CM punk covered William Regal and submitted pinfall but William Regal rejected pin fall to save this wrestling match. CM Punk kicked into William Regal’s stomach and suplexed him. CM punk quickly submitted pin fall but William Regal rejected to lose this wrestling match. William Regal’s official manager Layla carefully watched their wrestling performance by standing at outside of the wrestling ring. CM Punk gave two knee kicks to William Regal and reversed William Regal to give a knee shot. However, William Regal escaped from his trick but reserved a leg shot from CM Punk. William Regal went to outisde of the wrestling ring and CM Punk tried to injure William Regal but CM Punk did not mainly due to Layla. CM Punk decided to go to outside but CM Punk damaged CM Punk’s head with stage by pulling CM Punk’s leg. William Regal entered into wrestling ring. Similarly, CM Punk also entered into wrestling ring. William Regal surprised CM Punk with powerful knee shot and continuously injured CM Punk. William Regal submitted pin fall but CM Punk rejected to lose this wrestling match. William Regal gave two knee shots and then reversed CM Punk to give a hand punch to CM Punk.

CM punk once again rejected to lose this wrestling match. William Regal locked CM Punk’s neck but CM Punk tried to control him with mixed martial arts kicks. William Regal gave powerful hand punch to CM Punk into his stomach. CM Punk surprised William Regal with super leg shot and submitted pin fall. William Regal rejected to lose this wrestling match. CM Punk gave a powerful high knee shot at one corner of the wrestling ring and then tried to Go to Sleep. William Regal holds ring rope and disqualified by holding match referee. William Regal successfully retained his WWE Intercontinental Championship but lost his wrestling match to CM Punk. World Wrestling Entertainment defeated William Regal but discouraged with match referee’s decision. In few moments, WWE Vice-Executive President Stephanie McMahon appeared on screen to give a message to William Regal. Stephanie McMahon was not happy by seeing first championship of this year in this way. Stephanie McMahon announced another WWE Intercontinental Championship match between CM Punk and William Regal at WWE Raw on Janaury 12, 2009 edition. CM Punk felt very happy and returned to backstage with lot of hope.
