On April 24, 2009 in Smackdown edition, Dolph Ziggler appeared after MVP’s victory over Chavo guerrero. Dolph Ziggler congratulated WWE United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter. Dolph Ziggler talked about MVP’s fan and he wants to introduce himself to MVP’s fan as new WWE United States Champion in next week Smackdown edition.
#1 contender of WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler faced Finlay. Dolph Ziggler and Finlay well concentrated on this wrestling match. Suddenly, Mike Knox appeared in this wrestling event. However, these two involved in their wrestling match but Mike Knox injured Finlay’s knee with his drum stick. Dolph Ziggler used this advantage and defeated Finlay.

However, Dolph Ziggler received a golden oppotunity from World Wrestling Entertainment by facing three top class wrestling superstars Finlay, Mike Knox and R-Truth in a Fatal Four Way Match. Dolph Ziggler faced very tough competition from wrestling fans but finally became #1 contender of WWE Intercontinental Championship. After this match, Dolph Ziggler tried to injure WWE Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio at announce table area where Rey Mysterio is official guest commentator. Finlay pulled Dolph Ziggler’s hair to bring him into wrestling ring. Dolph Ziggler escaped but Rey Mysterio jumped over Dolph Ziggler from announcement table.
On September 10, 2009 in Superstars edition, #1 contender of WWE Intercontinental Championship Dolph Ziggler faced Slam Master J in one on one wrestling match. Dolph Ziggler well analyzed Slam Master J and defeated him.
On September 18, 2009 in Smackdown, #1 contender of WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler appeared as special guest commentator for John Morrison’s match with Mike Knox. However, Dolph Ziggler mocked by John Morrison. Dolph Ziggler seriously reacted and returned to backstage with frustration.
On October 9, 2009 at Smackdown, Dolph Ziggler faced WWE Intercontinental Champion John Morrison in a rematch but defeated by John Morrison due to Maria’s mistake. After this match, Dolph Ziggler cleared his inner feelings with Maria and does not wish to see Maria in his personal life.
