Matt hardy faced ECW Champion Jack Swagger for ECW Championship at Royal Rumble 2009. Matt Hardy well handled Jack Swagger with hand punches and Jack Swagger tried cheap shot but failed. Matt Hardy did not give chance to Jack Swagger. ECW Champion was unable to stand in front of Matt Hardy and gone to outside. Jack Swagger received punishment. Jack Swagger threw Matt Hardy to outside from top rope.

Jack Swagger worked on Matt Hardy‘s left shoulder and then gave a big boot shot. Wrestling fans encouraged Matt hardy by chanting Lets Go Hardy. The superior hardy tried to control Jack Swagger with closelines and single handed bulldog. Jack Swagger damaged back Matt with back suplex. Once again Jack Swagger worked on Matt hardy’s injured left shoulder.

Matt Hardy later jumped over Jack Swagger from top rope. ECW Champion further damaged shoulder of Matt hardy with steel ring pole. Jack Swagger destroyed Matt hardy with power bomb and retained his ECW Champion by defeating Matt Hardy through pin fall.
