Smackdown General manager Stephanie McMahon introduced WWE Tag Team Championship title belts at No Mercy on October 20, 2009. Smackdown brand filtered two tags with four wrestling superstars. Kurt Angle & Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio and Edge got chance to win first ever tag team championship match.

Rey Mysterio and Kurt Angle started this tag team match. Kurt Angle wants to face Edge but Rey Mysterio decided to continue this match. Kurt Angle underestimated Rey Mysterio but received punishment. Rey Mysterio disrespected Kurt Angle just like Kurt Angle. 8 time WWE tag team champion Edge surprised Kurt Angle with his amazing wrestling performance.

Chris Benoit joined with Edge by received an official tag from his tag team partner Kurt Angle. Kurt Angle injured Edge with cheap knee shot but received a spear from Edge. Chris Benoit surprised Edge with triple German suplex but attacked Rey Mysterio cheaply. Rated R Superstar Edge seriously damaged back of Chris Benoit with superplex.

Rey Mysterio cleaned ring with his world class performance. Chris Benoit later applied cross face but Edge saved this match. Edge later injured Kurt Angle with steel steps. Kurt Angle surprised Rey Mysterio with superplex. Chris Benoit’s shoulder damaged by steel ring pole.

Rey Mysterio and Edge successfully handled both challengers. Chris Benoit made mistake by giving headbutt to Kurt Angle. Rey Mysterio connected 619 to Chris Benoit when Chris Benoit applies cross face on Edge. Edge and Kurt Angle applied ankle lock each other. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit became first ever WWE tag team champions and celebrated their memorable victory.
