Dolph Ziggler Vs CM Punk for WWE Championship & John Laurinaitis is special guest referee at WWE Royal Rumble 2012
On December 26, 2011 at WWE Raw SuperShow edition, the interim General Manager John Laurinaitis disrespected CM Punk by coming out to Champion’s music in his hometown Chicago. WWE Champion CM Punk seriously considered his actions, also insulted him in front of his hometown mates but executive vice president of talent relations of WWE also seriously considered it, put CM Punk in three Gauntlet matches and said that whoever defeats CM Punk in this kind of match gets a WWE Championship match in January 2, 2012 SuperShow edition. Similarly, WWE Champion the straightedge savior also added a stipulation i.e if he defeats three of them, then interested to face John Laurinaitis in fourth match. John Laurinaitis accepted his challenge.
On same night Jack Swagger tried but failed but his friend Dolph Ziggler successfully defeated CM Punk in second Gauntlet match. As per the match situation, Dolph Ziggler faced him in a WWE Championship match in January 2, 2012 Raw SuperShow and successfully defeated the straight edge saint by count out with the help of John Laurinaitis. CM Punk retained his WWE Championship title. However, John Laurinaitis arranged a WWE Championship match between both of them and also appointed himself as guest referee at WWE Royal Rumble 2012 pay per view.
At January 9, 2012 Raw SuperShow, John Laurinaitis made a match between Jack Swagger and CM Punk with a match stipulation i.e Jack Swagger and Vickie Guerrero will be banned from ringside if CM Punk defeats Swagger. WWE Champion utilized this opportunity, defeated the All American American successfully and it made Jack Swagger and Vickie Guerrero ban from ringside. On January 16, 2012 Monday night live event; Interim General Manager gave a warning to CM Punk, put him in a six man tag team match but WWE Champion got a tag team partner Mick Foley when Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho left him. However, John Laurinaitis reverse referee’s decision but confronted by Punk.
t January 23, 2012 SuperShow, the straightedge WWE Champion calls out General Manger but GM shocked him by putting him in a tag team match. After that match, Punk issued a challenge to Laurinaitis and even GM accepted it. Surprisingly, Board of Directors of World Wrestling Entertainment sent an official FAX to Gm which will be officially announced by Otunga in front of WWE Universe as per Laurinaitis’s order. Suddenly, David Otunga attacked CM Punk but WWE Champion attacked him as well as delivered a GTS to GM but attacked by his Royal Rumble opponent Dolph Ziggler.
The straightedge superstar tried to pin but ziggler immediately refused it to save this match. Punk invited his opponent to lock hands but Ziggler punched with another hand. WWE Champion escaped from leg drop bulldog. Similarly, #1 contender escaped from Punk’s GTS. The straightedge superstar blocked his punch, and then punched to face powerfully; kick to leg, roundhouse kick to chest but Ziggler frustrated his opponent just like Ric Flair. However, WWE Champion enjoyed it. Showoff escaped from Anaconda Vise by reached near to a corner. They both locked both hands each other but The Second City Saint transferred it into abdominal stretch, even dropped some elbows on kidney, mocked him in his own style and then repeated forearm smashes on abdominal area.
The Second City Savior tossed his challenger on top rope and Ziggler was fallen to outside. He utilized it by performing suicide dive through ring ropes, brought Ziggler to ring, goes to top rope but Dolph pulled leg powerfully and CM Punk got injured by the ring rope. The #HEEL kicked on face repeatedly, performed swinging neckbreaker, elbow drop on chest repeatedly, then jumping elbow drop on chest; after that the natural dropped an elbow on chest, applied chin lock takedown but The Voice of The Voiceless surprised him with belly to belly back body drop. Dolph punched to face and received elbow to head, punched to face and received side kick to midsection, kicked at abdominal area and received some punches to and also received open arm shots to both ears.
However, the #1 contender of WWE title applied sleeper hold but the best in the world tried to apply Anaconda Vise but Ziggler transferred it into sleeper hold takedown. After that WWE Champion broke it but received a dropkick to chest. The Voice of The Voiceless surprised his competitor with a power bomb, delivered combination of knife edge chop to chest and punch to face, then reverse kick to midsection, attacked him with clotheslines, swinging neckbreaker, connected step up high knee to face at a corner, saluted to WWE Universe, then performed single hand bulldog, singled people to send his opponent to Go To Sleep but Ziggler refused to cooperate, tried to deliver snake eye but WWE Champion well balanced on middle rope and surprised him with diving crossbody.
However, Dolph reversed it but this time the best wrestler in the world refused it to lose this match. CM Punk intelligently holds top rope to avoid Zig Zag and received a roundhouse kick to head. The straightedge WWE Champion slammed his opponent on middle of the ring, looked at the special guest referee John Laurinaitis before performing top rope diving elbow drop but Ziggler refused pin fall and also refused GTS by pushing Punk and CM Punk hits Punk accidentally. The official match referee was fallen to outside. After that the special guest referee John Laurinaitis checked condition of match referee but in ring CM Punk applied anaconda vise on his competitor and tapped out successfully but special guest referee John Laurinaitis still checks condition of match referee.
WWE Champion seriously considered his irresponsibility, called him to come to ring but Laurinaitis explains situation. One more time Punk tried to pin Ziggler but there is no response from John Laurinaitis. CM Punk punched to Dolph Ziggler powerfully, looked at John Laurinaitis with angry, blamed him for his irresponsibility but match referee little bit awake from unconscious stage. CM Punk lifted his opponent over his shoulders but accidentally Ziggler legs hit John Laurinaitis and GM went to outside. CM Punk successfully connected GTS but original match referee was not completely awake but special guest referee did not want to enter into ring. Punk tried to perform another GTS but Ziggler converted it into leg drop bulldog. This time original match referee was responded but Punk rejected pin fall to save this match.
Showoff delivered several forearm smashes on back, kicks to chest, elbow drops on chest but WWE Champion escaped from Zig Zag, surprised his opponent to get snake eye, connected another Go To Sleep but John Laurinaitis entered into ring and along with original match referee he counted pin, gave Punk title to champion through match referee and clapped before returning to backstage. CM Punk successfully retained WWE Championship title and involved in celebrating his memorable victory.
